Mounted Police (1920s)

Many city forces adopted the use of a mounted section and Exeter was no exception, as can be seen from this photograph taken in the 1920s.

The photograph also shows that by now the style of the helmets had changed in a similar way to those of many other forces in the 1920s, the high ornate ball having been replaced by a low cloth dome. The castle crest is relocated to the epaulette and a crown is situated next to the collar number instead.
